The snap legislative elections of May 18, 2025, resulted in a victory for the Democratic Alliance (AD), led by the PSD and CDS-PP, with 32.72% of the vote and 89 seats. However, even with support from the Liberal Initiative, AD does not have a guaranteed majority. The Socialist Party (PS) suffered a historic defeat, winning 23.38% and 58 seats, leading to Pedro Nuno Santos’s resignation. Chega came close with 22.56% and could surpass PS in total seats if it wins again among emigrant voters.
To analyse this new political landscape, we speak with Laurentino Esteves, President of the PSD in Toronto.
