Peel Regional Police are investigating after a 17-year-old female was shot in a plaza in Brampton.
Officers were called to Central Park Drive and Grenoble Boulevard, near Williams Parkway and Bramalea Road, for reports of a daytime shooting around 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
A police spokesperson tells CityNews the young victim was located in a plaza nearby.
Const. Sarah Patten initially told reporters at the scene that a 13-year-old female youth was suffering from a gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police later issued a correction, saying the victim is 17 years old.
There is also conflicting information over the weapon used, with reports indicating the victim was shot and injured with a pellet gun. Police tell CityNews the teenage girl had multiple wounds to her leg. Const. Patten says a pellet gun could cause serious damage.
Police are searching for a male suspect. Const. Patten says they identified this person as a young student that attends a school in the area.
Nine nearby schools have been placed under hold and secure as a precaution.
