“I’m specifically looking at the way that migrant labour and labour export policy is affecting the mental health of the folks who come from Philippines to Canada,” ani Loo.

“Specifically, looking at the way that the live-in caregiver program separated mothers and children and families back home, and how that separation can have a lasting impact on the children when they do come to Canada and do grow up.”

“It’s always just been right in front of me. It’s really evident in my community, I’ve just never thought deeply about it until I made a friend who really opened me up to how it affected her life,” aniya.

“I think that the labour export between the Philippines and Canada is all about the economy but it’s done at the expense of the way that families are held together in the Philippines,” ani Loo.

“I’m hoping mainly that it’ll help people communicate more with their families, hopefully it becomes something that instigates conversation between parent and child,” ani Loo.
