多伦多Princess Margaret癌症基金会收到5千万捐款
多伦多Princess Margaret癌症基金会, 收到一筆5千万元的捐款，将用于癌症中心的创新研究工作。 这笔捐款是为了纪念去年过世的加拿大媒体大亨和慈善家Allan Slaight，由他妻子和Slaight家族基金会共同捐出。5千万元的资金将不会指定用途，希望癌症中心能够吸引和发挥顶尖科研人员的优势，在癌症诊断和治疗方面有所突破。 为了表彰Slaight及其家族对癌症研究的贡献，位于College街101号的Princess Margaret癌症研究中心, 将改名为Allan Slaight 医学创新实验室。中心还将举办Allan Slaight 年度创新论坛，邀请全球顶尖科学家参与，并为加拿大癌症前沿研究人员提供经费。
多市呼籲兩級政府協助解決財政問題
多倫多市議會今天就市府的最新財政狀況進行討論。由於仍然面臨嚴重的財政短缺，市長莊德利呼籲聯邦和省政府繼續提供資金支持。 市長莊德利表示，今年財政預算，因為疫情而導致的14億元短缺，已經有4億7千8百萬得到了聯邦和省府的承諾支持，另外還有8千5百萬來自TTC乘客量增加以及省府承諾的疫情公共健康費用補助。不過，兩者加起來也只有預算缺口的三分之一。 市長表示，急需的資金將用於彌補公車局的損失，運營庇護中心，和推廣疫苗接種，希望在不減少服務，動用基建儲備金的情況下確保城市逐步走出疫情。多倫多市議會今天還批准了第一個十年原住民和解行動計劃，以及改變8個市府物業用途，建造可負擔房屋的計劃，並會在本週就多倫多是否申請2026年世界杯足球賽作出決定。
