On Saturday, international students in Brampton staged a protest after being told their admission letters to post-secondary institutions to Canada were fraudulent.
At the protest were students like Ramanjot Kaur, who came to Canada five years ago in search of higher education and a better life. Kaur said her agent brought her an offer letter from Seneca College, which CBSA has now declared fake.
She said after giving five years of her life to Canada, she found out from CBSA during her PR background check that her admission letter was fake, the same letter she used to enter Canada.
Kaur’s case is currently in court, but she said she feels the scales of justice will not tip her way.
OMNI reached out to MP Ruby Sahota from Brampton North on this matter and she confirmed the students facing charges in this matter, stating the students are not only from Punjab or India, but also from other countries.
Sahota said she’s in touch with the immigration minister on this matter and the immigration department is closely investigating the case of individual students.
According to Sahota, these students may be relieved in the coming days, but until then, Sahota is demanding these students cooperate in the investigation.
