Trudeau government promises formal apology for WW2 Italian Internment Camps | OMNI News

Over 31,000 Italian-Canadians were declared enemy aliens during the Second World War and 600 of them were forced into internment in camps in Canada after Italy allied with Germany in 1940.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he will issue a formal apology in May for the treatment of Italian-Canadians at the time, something no Canadian government has done up to this point.

In an exclusive interview with OMNI #Italian, Justice Minister David Lametti says being part of the announcement means a lot to him as a descendent of Italian immigrants.
