One Thousand Sons

“May you have a thousand sons” is a blessing to bestow upon expectant mothers. This documentary looks at the age old preference of male heirs in some South Asian communities and the dark future for cultures who are strongly patriarchal.

Filmmaker Rama Rau profiles three women who share their experiences with sex-selection and its impact on their lives. Through their thought-provoking and emotional stories, Rau deconstructs the issue to expose its existence in Canadian society and urges viewers to contemplate its presence in Canada.
