So Far From Home
The stories of five reporters whose pursuit of journalistic excellence garnered them no awards; it forced them into exile.
So Far From Home documents their efforts to come to terms with their past and their struggle to build a future.
In 1968, when the former Soviet Union invaded Czechoslovakia, filmmaker Vladimir Kabelik tried to do his part to change the system that now dictated a new political reality. His efforts, over thirteen years, were in vain, and in 1981, he left his native Prague and immigrated to Canada as a political refugee. Once here, Vladimir persevered to become both an accomplished documentary filmmaker and film professor. Today, over twenty years later, Vladimir points the lens of his camera at people who, like himself, have been forced to flee their homelands due to threats by despotic governments.
