Marsel

This documentary is about Marsel, a 20 year old Albanian-Canadian, who left his native country seven years ago, when he was 13 years old.

In those days, this small Balkan country was in the middle of a profound social and economic crisis. Let’s remember that in 1997 Albania nearly entered into a civil war because of the collapse of the pyramid schemes. The riots that followed had a very strong impact on the life of many honest Albanians, who no longer saw their future in their homeland engulfed by destruction and hate. It was under these circumstances that Marsel’s parents decided to move to Toronto.

For the first time in six years of immigration in Canada, Marsel decides to take on trip to visit his native place . The camera follows him during an emotional journey and brings his reactions and findings while he rediscovers this fascinating world.

Find out the circumstances in which the Albanian community settled in Canada and the dramatic changes in the conscience of the new generation of Albanian-Canadians.

Watch this intimate and emotional story told in a unique language, Albanian.
