The success of the half hour sit-com, Friends owes as much to its writers as it does to its tight-knit ensemble cast of actors. The comedy series that is set in Manhattan and traces the lives of six friends taps into all manner of timely trends, phobias, stereotypes and mannerisms while keeping the laugh factor in high gear. The characters include Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), Monica (Courtney Cox-Arquette), Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow), Ross (David Schwimmer), Chandler (Matthew Perry) and Joey (Matt LeBlanc).
