Veggie Table - Show #45

Falafel with Tahini

  • 1 cup (250 mL) -- Falafel mix
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) -- Minced onion
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) -- Ground cumin
  • ½ tsp (2 mL) -- Salt
  • ¼ tsp (1 mL) -- Pepper
  • ¼ cup (50 mL) -- Veggie oil
  • 4 -- Pitas
  • 1 cup (250 mL) -- Shredded lettuce
  • 2 -- Medium-sized tomatoes (diced)
  • To taste... -- Tahini sauce (prepared)

In a medium bowl, mix falafel mix with ¼ cup water until thoroughly moist. Add onion, cumin, salt and pepper. With hands make four large or eight small patties. In a medium frying pan, heat oil over medium. Fry patties until brown - about 3 to 4 minutes on each side. Drain on paper towels. Fill each pita with one large or two small patties each. To serve, spoon tahini sauce over falafel and top with shredded lettuce and diced tomato.
