- 1 cup (250 mL) -- Cream of wheat (roasted)
- 3 cups (750 mL) -- Boiling water
- 1 ½ tbsp (22 mL) -- Butter
- Pinch (Pinch) -- Hing (asafetida)
- ½ tsp (2 mL) -- Mustard seeds
- 1/3 cup (75 mL) -- Diced onions
- 2 tsp (10 mL) -- Fresh chopped coriander
- 1-2 (1-2) -- Chopped fresh green hot pepper (or to taste)
- 1 -- Whole dried red pepper
- ½ tsp (2 mL) -- Uran dal
- 2 -- Curry pattas
- To taste... -- Salt
Heat saucepan over medium heat and when hot, add ghee/butter. Then immediately after, add the mustard seeds and urad dal. Mix and immediately add all the other ingredients except the cream of wheat, water and salt. When onions turn golden, add cream of wheat and slowly add the boiling water, stirring constantly. Add the salt, turn down the heat and cook slowly until water is absorbed and ingredients form a consistent mass.
